The Bachelor’s Irena Srbinovska weighs in on the ‘dress theory’ about the winner – and why she panicked when she was shown her finale outfit

The unofficial ‘dress theory’ has been doing the rounds among Bachelor fans for years, and one former winner has shared her take on it.

The theory goes that the Bachelor will always pick the woman wearing the lighter-coloured dress in the season finale.

Irena Srbinovska, who won season eight last year, was asked during an Instagram Q&A on Friday whether her dress was in any way linked to her boyfriend Locky Gilbert’s decision.

Bachelor fans will recall Irena’s victory complicated the dress theory somewhat as she won Locky’s heart despite wearing a darker, leopard-print dress.

‘I didn’t know what I was wearing until the morning of finale,’ the 32-year-old nurse wrote alongside a photo of herself on the day in question.

‘I tried on five dresses (all different colours) and then this one was picked for me.’

As a longtime Bachelor viewer, Irena was aware of the dress theory and panicked when a producer told her she’d be wearing the leopard-print number.

‘Like everyone watching I was like, “If I’m wearing a light colour it’s a good sign,” and then this threw me,’ she said.

Of course the theory didn’t hold up, with Locky declaring his love for Irena and leaving runner-up Bella Varelis – who was wearing a purple dress – heartbroken.

The couple are still going strong one year later and live together in Perth.

‘A year on, our life is far greater than I could have ever imagined it to be,’ Irena said.

‘Locky, you have made me the happiest that I have ever been and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us. I love life with you.’
