A teenager has gone viral on TikTok after issuing a fashion-forward PSA about a pair of pleather Zara pants that make a mortifying noise whenever she bends down.
Julia Leonard, 19, was left horrified when she wore the stylish black trousers to dinner with her family – only to discover the very awkward design flaw when she bent down to pick up her sister’s phone.
Eager to help other style lovers avoid the same embarrassment, Julia recounted the incident on TikTok, while demonstrating the horrifying, yet hilarious, noise that the pants make when she squats down towards the ground.
Awkward! A teenager has gone viral on TikTok after revealing the mortifying noise her new Zara pants make whenever she bends down
Letting rip! Julia Leonard, from New York, discovered the awkward style flaw when she was out to dinner with her family, and she bent down to pick up her sister’s phone
In the video, which she captioned, ‘Save yourself because I couldn’t,’ Julia holds up the black faux leather trousers, while recalling how she first learned about their noise-making abilities.
‘So I bought these really cute flare-y type leather pants, and I went out to eat with my family in them,’ she explains. ‘And thank God it was just my family.
Demonstration: The 19-year-old repeated the awkward incident for the benefit of her followers, proving that it was not a one-off
‘On our way out, my sister drops her phone, so I go down to pick it up, and this happens…’
Julia then puts the pants on, stands in front of the camera and drops to the ground with her knees apart – prompting the trousers to emit a very loud, very squeaky noise, which she then repeats by squatting down again and again.
‘So here’s a warning if you want to buy these pants!’ the teen concludes her clip.
Thankfully, Julia’s family found the whole episode incredibly entertaining, and the teen revealed in a comment that they actually made her repeat the motion multiple times when they got home.
‘I am so so so sore because when I got home my family made me do it at least 100 times,’ she wrote. ‘I got a full on workout!’
The fashion PSA quickly went viral on the social media app, racking up more than 2.7 million views, while hundreds of users commented on the video to express their shock at the very unfortunate incident.
Many also admitted that the gassy noise was the last thing they were expecting Julia to reveal.
Offending item: The 19-year-old explained that she hadn’t really worn the ‘cute’ faux leather trousers before going out in public – and she was horrified when they made the noise they did
Tip! Julia’s video quickly went viral on TikTok, with one person suggesting that she try bending down with her knees together, which seemed to solve the problem
‘I was expecting you to say they ripped but I was way off,’ one person commented, with another one chiming in: ‘I just spit out my food!’
A few commenters confessed that they had experienced the same embarrassment with the pants, with one person admitting: ‘I have the same pair… happened to me getting into an Uber!’
Fame: The teenager’s clip racked up more than 2.7 million views, and hundreds of comments from entertained users
Others were delighted by the style surprise, and joked that they were going to buy the pants as a prank for their own friends and family members.
‘I’m gonna buy them now just to prank people,’ one person wrote, with another adding: ‘I’m getting these for my sister’s birthday.’
However, one commenter pointed out a somewhat useful solution to the problem, advising the TikToker to try bending down in the pants again, but this time with her legs closed, instead of apart.
‘Do another video with the pants on but keep your legs together like you’re wearing a dress,’ the person wrote. ‘Let’s see if they make the same noise.’
Happy to oblige, Julia tested out the theory, revealing that the pants are completely silent when she sits down, and when she bends to the ground with her knees together – although she pointed out that the tip isn’t particularly helpful for her, because she always squats to the ground with her knees apart.
Although it is unclear which Zara style Julia was referring to, the brand currently has more than a dozen different styles of faux leather pants available, so potential buyers might be best advised to try on their purchases at home before wearing them in public.
