David Bilsborough, Business Director at Cheshire Cars in Crewe said his car seems to run “a lot smoother” with higher octane petrol. He said his vehicle “performs better” with 99 Super Unleaded fuel and has urged drivers to try it out.
“I’ll then go back to E10 fuel and do a comparison.
“But my initial thoughts from my car is the 99 Super is far better for my vehicle.”
Mr Bilsborough has urged drivers to “try” putting some Super Unleaded in their vehicle.
In some petrol stations, Super Unleaded will be the traditional 95 LOctane E5 fuel which used to be standard.
Confused.com says there are claims Super Unleaded fuel can come with “noticeable benefits”.
The manufacturers of the fuel claim the petrol helps to remove dirt from the inside of the engine and helps it to run more smoothly.
However, they urge road users to always check their car manufacturers handbook for guidance on fuel before topping up.
Speaking previously to Express.co.uk, Historic and Classic Vehicle Alliance (HCVA) spokesperson Malcolm McKay said the cost difference for Super Unleaded was “not huge”.
He also wanted older vehicles may have been “originally designed to run on higher octane fuels such as 99 blends.
He said: “If you shop around, the cost premium is not huge – most supermarkets stock 97 octane E5, though sometimes only at one pump.
“For older engines with 9:1 compression or higher, that were originally designed for 100 octane fuel, 99 octane fuels are available.”
