Strictly 'fix' fears over Tony Adams win as '100,000-strong' Arsenal fanbase unites

Strictly Come Dancing is back on BBC One on Sunday and fans will find out who will be facing the dreaded dance-off. Despite receiving low scores from the judges, former footballer Tony Adams and his professional dancer Katya Jones have avoided the bottom two so far. As his Arsenal fanbase rallies behind him, it is believed he could go on to reach the final and even win the 2022 series.

Tony Adams is certainly showing signs of improvement according to the judging panel, who failed to fault his Quickstep on Halloween week.

He finished with a score of 31, which is his highest score of the series so far, and he hopes things can only get better from here.

However, it should not be ignored that he has spent the past few weeks at the bottom of the leaderboard, with the judges saying his technique still needs work.

Despite the low scores, he appears to be receiving more votes than any other contestant in the series.

The Mail on Sunday said the “secret behind the former footballer’s success” was a 100,000-strong forum for Arsenal fans.

The group named She Wore A Yellow Ribbon – The Arsenal have organised a social media campaign to keep the star in the competition.

This has sparked fans to worry Tony could follow in the footsteps of contestants such as Ann Widdecombe and John Sergeant, who stayed in the competition thanks to public support.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the fact Tony has avoided the dance-off so far.

Radie van den Berg said: “If the rumours are true that Tony Adams has a 100 000 FB membership group behind him.

“Give him the trophy. It’s not worth it then. Hopefully this farce will be finally cancelled.

“Said it before…judges scores need to count MORE! Viewers votes should be 25 per cent! Not 50! #Strictly.” [Sic]

El intruso added after this week: “Will Mellor gets just ONE mark more than Tony Adams. Is this just to keep the viewing figures up because they need the Arsenal fans #strictly #fix”

An organiser of the social media campaign, calling himself Our Captain Needs You, explained why they wanted to keep Tony in the competition.

They said: “Tony is our captain and our idol, and he needs us now, so we are asking all of our members to download their votes and use all three to get him to the final, and win.

“We don’t usually bother with shows like Strictly but we want Tony to win.”

Viewers will have to wait and see whether Tony stays in the competition thanks to his growing band of supporters.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One for the results show on Sunday at 7.20pm.
