Shang-Chi dominates domestic and global box office with $257.6M as Free Guy amasses $276.5M in fifth week
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings continued to dominate both the domestic and international box office this weekend with a total $257.6M since its September 3 opening.
Destin Daniel Cretton’s No. 1 hit movie has now surpassed its reported budget, between $150M–$200M, despite a 34% drop overseas – according to Deadline.
The MCU superhero flick currently holds a ‘certified fresh’ 92% critic approval rating (out of 272 reviews) and a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Landing the second spot was Shawn Levy’s sci-fi action comedy, starring Ryan Reynolds, with a total $276.5M in its fifth week in cinemas.
But unlike Shang-Chi, Free Guy plays in China and it’s earned $76.3M to date there – according to Deadline.
And it’s unlikely to after 2017 social media comments made by Simu Liu – the Canadian son of Chinese immigrants – resurfaced calling the Communist country ‘third world’ and describing its people as ‘dying of starvation.’

Nia DaCosta’s horror sequel Candyman earned fourth place with $4.8M domestically and $10.9M internationally.
And Jaume Collet-Serra’s family adventure flick Jungle Cruise pulled $2.4M domestically this weekend, landing in fifth place after an impressive seven weeks in cinemas.
