Sarah Ferguson is a renowned author who has entertained and delighted children with her stories about Budgie the Helicopter and Little Red. The former wife of Prince Andrew has also written two nonfiction tomes about Queen Victoria, as well as a memoir. Recently, she decided to branch out into the genre of historical romance and is now awaiting the publication of her novel ‘Her Heart for a Compass’.

In an interview with People magazine, the 61-year-old royal confided that she had finally discovered her authentic-self.

“It’s like I’ve gotten out of my own way,” she said.

“I’ve really become Sarah. The Duchess is there. Good old Fergie’s there too.

    “But Sarah is authentically present.”

The path to self-discovery was in large part a result of her research into her ancestor Lady Margaret Douglas Scott for her book.

The Duchess revealed: “In researching her, I found out more about my own DNA, and I found that resilience and courage and sense of hope and optimism.”

“Since very little more information was easily found about her, it seemed she would be an ideal vehicle for me to weave my story around.”

She added: “The book refers to journeys Lady Margaret makes to Ireland and America, which in fact reflects my own personal journeys.”

The 400-page novel is set to be published on August 3 by HarperCollins.
