Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s South African tour started on September 23, 2019, and lasted until October 2. According to local reports, the Duke of Sussex tried the dish South African Bobotie, which is spiced minced meat, flavoured with dried fruit, and baked with an egg topping. To make the dish is very simple, and you will need a buttered 26x20cm ovenproof dish. It takes just half an hour to prepare and one to two hours to cook, according to Michael Buerk’s Royal Recipes programme.
Two garlic cloves, crushed
Two tbsp madras curry paste
250ml lamb stock
Two tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Two tbsp mango chutney
50g raisins
50g dried apricots, chopped
One tbsp cider vinegar
DON’T MISS:
Method
Firstly, preheat the oven to 180C and grease a deep ovenproof dish with butter.
Then combine the milk, breadcrumbs, and eggs in a large jug, and whisk together with a fork to set aside.
Michael Buerk advises to heat the oil in a large, heavy-based pan and fry the lamb in batches for five minutes, or until browned.
Take the pan off the heat and stir in the remaining ingredients.
After spooning the lamb mixture into the buttered dish in an even layer, smooth down with the back of a spoon.
Then pour the milk mixture over the top, and bake for 35 minutes.
The topping should be just set, with a slight wobble. Leave to stand for a few minutes before serving up the dish.
