Ron Masak dead: Murder, She Wrote actor dies aged 86 days after co-star Angela Lansbury

    Murder, She Wrote star Ron Masak died on Thursday from natural causes, according to his family. He began as a stage performer, and much of his work was in theatre until he transitioned to film and television.

    His first screen role was as the Harmonica Man in The Purple Testament, an episode of The Twilight Zone in 1960.

    The actor is best known for starring in 41 episodes of Murder, She Wrote from 1985 to 1996.

    In the hit series, he portrayed the role of Sheriff Mort Metzger, but also appeared as two other characters in Footnote to Murder and No Accounting for Murder.

    Dubbed The King of Commercials in the 1980s and 90s, he appeared in many adverts most notably for a Vlasic pickles ad.

    The late actress died peacefully at her home in Los Angeles on October 11.

    In a statement, her children said Angela said she was just five days shy of her 97th birthday. 

    The film star played the role of Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote from 1984 to 1996. 

    The Dame was a highly decorated actress with a career spanning over eight decades.
