Jacob Rees-Mogg launched an attack on a fellow Conservative MP just hours after quitting as Business Secretary. Conservative MP Richard Graham accused Mr Rees-Mogg of saying that he “never accepted the decision of this country to leave the European Union”. Mr Rees-Mogg was speaking in a debate in the House of Commons about repealing remaining EU laws.

Speaking about Conservative MP Mr Graham, Mr Rees-Mogg said: “I am afraid my honorable friend has never liked the decision to levae the European Union, and everything he says must be taken in that context”.

Hitting back at the former minister, Mr Graham said: “That is an extraordinary and entirely untrue observation and I ask him to withdraw it.”

This came just hours after Mr Rees-Mogg resigned as Business Secretary.

New Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is currently undertaking a major cabinet reshuffle after succeeding Liz Truss.

A source close to Mr Rees-Mogg told the Telegraph: “He knows he was very close to the previous two regimes and it didn’t seem likely he was going to be appointed in the new Cabinet.

“He’s happy to support the prime minister from the backbenches.”
