Ben Fordham cements 2GB’s position as Sydney’s number one radio station as Kyle and Jackie O top the FM charts in the latest radio survey

Ben Fordham has officially established himself as Sydney’s number one radio host.

Fordham and 2GB came close to recording an all-time best result for the Sydney breakfast radio market in the latest survey, which also saw KIIS 106.5’s The Kyle and Jackie O Show still leading the FM airwaves.

2GB registered a 19.8 per cent audience share – a one point jump from the previous survey and a result Fordham was more than thrilled by.

‘We love doing what we do and we love knowing that people are listening. It’s a top result for 2GB and all of our presenters and producers,’ he told The Daily Telegraph.

‘We spend a lot of time advocating on behalf of our listeners and we appreciate their loyalty,’ he added.

It comes as more listeners tune into AM over FM due to rolling news coverage and analysis of the Covid-19 pandemic, lockdowns, restrictions and travel bans.

2GB’s 19.8 per cent share has been the best result for the talkback station in more than a decade.

It is also just behind the previous 20.3 percent record held by Alan Jones in 2010.

AM rival ABC Sydney came in at second place with a 15.9 percent share, well below 2GB’s rating.

It comes as ABC Sydney recently announced the departure of hosts Wendy Harmer and Robbie Buck towards the end of the year.

KIIS’ Kyle and Jackie O’ continued leading the FM stations.

The duo saw a slight drop in their latest ratings, down 0.1 percent to 10.7.

Kyle and Jackie O’ famously beat Fordham in the ratings in July of this year, achieving both a historic win over 2GB and their best broadcasting result in 21 years.

The eighth and final radio ratings survey of 2021 will be published on December 14.
