Now, to honour the passing of the former Monarch, Sotheby’s in London will showcase an exhibition of photographs and artwork of trees and woodlands. The display is called The Queen’s Green Canopy, named after the tree-planting initiative and will be on available to view from December 10.
King Charles III is patron of the Queen’s Green Canopy and this week he unveiled the network of 70 ancient woodlands and trees which are dedicated to the Platinum Jubilee.
At an event in the summer, Charles and his mother could be seen together planting a tree for the QGC.
The organisers of The Queen’s Green Canopy said: “Established over hundreds of years, these precious and irreplaceable habitats are rich in their natural and social history and ecology and have formed the backdrop to important moments in the history of our four nations.
“The chosen locations span the landscape and exist for everyone to enjoy.
“They can be found in rural and urban spaces, from National Parks to housing estates.
“All have a unique story to tell – some are famous specimens, while others have local significance as natural wonders throughout our neighbourhoods.”
They added: “By sharing the stories behind the woodlands and trees, as well as the incredible efforts that are made to protect them, The Queen’s Green Canopy aims to raise awareness of these treasured habitats and the importance of conserving them for future generations.
“The Ancient Tree dedication marks the start of a long-term project to propagate material to ensure that the genetic resource and unique characteristics of some of the UK’s most important trees is preserved.”

The official tree planting season runs from October 2022 to March 2023 which will allow members of the public to make the most of the time frame to pay tribute to a beloved and missed Queen.
The Queen’s Green Canopy said: “The QGC is proud to be creating a living legacy with over a million trees planted in Her Majesty’s name across the nation during the first planting season, October 2021 to March 2022.
“The extension of the QGC initiative will build on this legacy and serve as a lasting tribute to Her Majesty’s extraordinary service to her country and her people.”
