During an interview in 2016 to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, the Duchess of Cambridge spoke about how Her Majesty shows her love to the young royals. Kate also revealed what her and Prince William’s eldest son, Prince George, calls his grandmother the Queen.

She said: “George is only two-and-a-half and he calls her Gan-Gan.”

Speaking about the Queen, Kate added: “She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay and that just shows her love for the family.”

Her Majesty had wonderful news to celebrate after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the birth of their daughter on Sunday.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex named their second child Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

A Buckingham Palace statement said: “The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”

A spokesperson for the Sussexes said the Queen was the first member of the Royal Family that Prince Harry called ahead of making the announcement on Sunday.

They added that during his conversation, Harry shared the couple’s hope of naming their daughter Lilibet “in her honour” and that if Her Majesty hadn’t been supportive they would not have used the name.
