Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie reveals how fatherhood has changed him after welcoming twins

Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie and his fiancée Dana Stephensen recently celebrated their twin daughters Lulu and Lottie’s first birthday. 

Speaking to Now To Love on Monday, Lachy revealed how fatherhood has changed him as he promotes his ambassador role for Camp Quality’s Bucket Hat Day.

Despite having spent more than a decade performing for sick children at hospitals, the 35-year-old said his work hits home now more than ever, since becoming a dad.

‘It’s the reason we do it, it’s the reason [The Wiggles] are still so popular,’ he said. ‘I see that now with my own daughters, the joy they get from music and how it instantly changes their mood.’

Like other parents, Lachy said he wishes his daughters wouldn’t grow up so quickly.

‘It just goes so fast – they’re already one, where did that go?’ he said. ‘[Fatherhood] kind of does just hit you, you can really prepare.’  

Lachy, who has been engaged to Dana for more than a year, also revealed that the couple are in no rush to wed.

‘In a really nice way we just haven’t actually had time to think about it,’ he said. 

Last month, Dana took a trip down memory lane and shared a rare photo of herself during her pregnancy.  

In the mirror selfie, the ballerina showed off her baby bump in black trackpants while lifting up her grey T-shirt.

The doting mother reflected: ‘This time last year… not much room to breathe but waking up each day grateful to keep the babies in one more day.’

‘It still blows me away there were two babies in there!’ she added.  

Lachy and Dana surprised everyone when they announced the arrival of their twins last September on Instagram.  

The Wiggles star shared a photo of them shortly after they were born and wrote: ‘Oh Lulu and Lottie, your mummy and daddy love you with all we have.

‘You are both so beautiful, and I would love to sing to you both forever,’ he added.

Dana shared the same image and wrote in the caption: ‘Lulu and Lottie – our two little sweethearts.’  

In addition to their twin girls, Lachy is a doting stepfather to Dana’s young son Jasper from a previous relationship.

He was separated from his wife and Wiggles bandmate Emma Watkins in August 2018, after two years of marriage.

Emma (a.k.a. the Yellow Wiggle) has since moved on with guitarist Oliver Brian, whom she is engaged to.
