Priyanka Chopra opened up about past body image struggles, which caused her to feel self-conscious about her weight and natural hair texture throughout her career.
The beauty trailblazer, who has found success as an actress and best-selling author, admitted she wasn’t always comfortable in her own skin during an interview with the Sunday Telegraph’s Stella magazine.
‘In the past, I always felt pressure to look a certain way. I have been raised with unrealistic beauty standards my whole life — we all have,’ revealed the 39-year-old Miss World 2000.

She continued: ‘Growing up, I believed everything had to be perfect, skinny or sample size, and airbrushed. It has taken me time to come to terms with my natural skin and natural hair texture.’
After years of getting her makeup professionally done and hair blown out before every interview, she prefers doing it herself, now.
‘These days I do my own. It’s been a revelation. I’m now comfortable in my own skin,’ she told the outlet.

She also disclosed a few unique morning and night rituals she has, including keeping her air conditioning set to around 60 degrees to stay ‘cozy.’
The performer also keeps an expresso machine by her bed, so she doesn’t have to get out of bed until she’s had her coffee.
Still, she gets restless and admits to occasionally waking up in the middle of the night and writing ‘to-do lists’ on her phone.

‘It’s hard not to let those thoughts creep in. But my soul is happy,’ Indian star explained.
Earlier this month on VS Voices podcast, she recalled a ‘dark phase’ of her life after receiving backlash for gaining weight in her 30s.
‘I was eating my emotions, my body started changing, I reached my 30s, I went through struggle because I used to get online grief from people like, ‘You are looking different, you are aging’, this and that. It messed with my mind at that time,’ she told listeners.
She continued: “Obviously, being raised in the industry and having such a tight lens on what my shape was, what my figure was or what my measurements were, minutely looking at every part of me, I kind of grew up for a while in my 20s, thinking that was normal.’

Now, she’s changed her relationship with social media and the internet to protect herself.
Chopra also leans on her husband Nick Jonas, who she recently referred to as the ‘love of my life’ in a sweet birthday tribute last month.
The pair initially met in 2016 when they were placed in contact by a mutual friend, and the singer sent his now-wife a message through Twitter to initiate a conversation.

Special day: Last month, Chopra paid tribute to her husband, Nick Jonas, in a gushing Instagram post, in which she referred to him as the ‘love of my life’
Chopra previously told Harper’s Bazaar that she was attracted to the musician after watching one of his steamy music videos.
‘I decided to date him after seeing the video for Close, where his shirt comes off. So that song is my favorite,’ she remarked.
Prior to becoming involved with his partner, Jonas was romantically linked to figures such as Olivia Culpo and Lily Collins, with the former starring in one of his music videos.
The pair went on to make their red carpet debut at the 2017 Met Gala, although neither confirmed that they were dating at the time.

Lots of love: Chopra and Jonas have appeared on each other’s Instagram accounts multiple times since the beginning of their marriage
Although the two spent an extended period of time apart, they reconnected in 2018 and began officially dating that year.
Jonas went on to shock many of his fans when he revealed that he had popped the big question to Chopra after just months of dating.
The couple did not remain engaged for very long, as they tied the knot during a three-day ceremony that was held at the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India, that began that November.
The performer’s wife went on to appear in the music video for the Jonas Brothers’ track What A Man Gotta Do, which featured all three of the siblings’ respective partners.
