Princess Beatrice says it was an ‘honour’ to wear Queen’s ‘beautiful’ dress on her wedding day and gushes she and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are ‘so excited’ for their ‘new chapter together’ in a rare tweet

  • Princess Beatrice, 32, wed Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in secret on July 17 in Windsor
  • Couple had to postpone planned nuptials on May 29 due to Covid-19 restrictions
  • Bea shared a rare tweet yesterday thanking fans for their best wishes for big day
  • Added she and Edo, 36, are ‘so excited to embark on this new chapter together’

Princess Beatrice admitted it was an ‘honour’ to wear the Queen’s dress on her wedding day and revealed she and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are ‘so excited’ for their future in a rare tweet.

The monarch’s granddaughter, 32, wed property developer Edo in secret on July 17 at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge in Windsor, after the pair were forced to postpone their planned nuptials on May 29 due to Covid-19.

Yesterday Beatrice tweeted to thank people who sent their best wishes to the couple on their special day, adding: ‘Edo and I are so excited to embark on this new chapter together.’

She also shared a tweet by the Royal Collection Trust encouraging people to visit its current exhibition where her Norman Hartnell-created wedding dress – which she borrowed from the Queen, 94 – shoes and a replica bouquet are currently on display.

Beatrice tweeted: ‘It was an honour to wear my grandmother’s beautiful dress on my wedding day, I hope many of you are able to visit the exhibition which is still open at Windsor Castle.’

Her Majesty wore the stunning vintage gown to a State dinner for the Italian Prime Minister in Rome in 1961 and to the premiere of Lawrence of Arabia at the Odeon in London’s Leicester Square in 1962.

Small adjustments were made to the gown by the monarch’s dresser Angela Kelly and designer Stewart Parvin for Beatrice’s wedding day, including the addition of cap sleeves embroidered with vintage diamantés.

The Queen also loaned Beatrice the Queen Mary Fringe tiara she wore herself when she married Prince Philip in 1947.

The last time Princess Beatrice tweeted was over a year ago in September 2019, to announce her engagement to Edo.

Many fans praised the royal for wearing her grandmother’s dress, with one calling it a ‘beautiful gesture’.

One commented: ‘I love that you wore your grandmother’s dress! So beautiful and personal. IMO the prettiest of all princess brides and dresses these past couple of decades or three! Simply stunning! Congratulations!’

‘Best wishes and blessings for your future together,’ wrote another. ‘You have raised the bar to new levels by wearing your grandmother’s stunning vintage dress and her wedding tiara. As your grandmother during wartime and thereafter, you have shown the world how to make due in difficult times.’

One tweeted: ‘Thank you for sharing such beautiful photos from your wedding day. YRH Princess Beatrice you and your husband, Edo looked gorgeous. Wearing your Grandmother’s gown and tiara was so touching and beautiful. I hope you have a long and happy marriage that is blessed with love & joy.’

‘You looked completely stunning. I loved that you wore your Grandma’s dress. The Mary Poppins of brides. Perfect in every way. Loved it,’ tweeted another, while one fan gushed: ‘A spectacular and touching choice and a beautiful gesture toward your grandmother, for whom I have the highest respect.’

Last month Beatrice broke her silence about her secret wedding, claiming it was ‘so much fun’ in a video for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice where she announced the winners of the organisation’s Kids Summer Art Competition 2020.

The wedding ceremony details were not made public beforehand and the pair were originally due to marry in the Chapel Royal followed by a reception in the gardens of Buckingham Palace – but their big day was postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Beatrice’s father the Duke of York walked her down the aisle but he did not feature in the photographs released by Buckingham Palace. The wedding was also attended by The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Beatrice’s wedding gown will be on display from September 24 until November 22.
