The documentary was originally commissioned for the Duke’s 100th birthday in June, but he sadly passed away two months before in April. It is comprised of interviews filmed before and after Philip’s death, and the BBC has written that the “historic” programme would see family members and staff offer “personal thoughts and reflections” about the Duke. The Duchess of Sussex and The Duchess of Cambridge are claimed to not be participating.

The teaser clip starts with a reflection from Prince Charles. He says: “One thing my father did, he was marvellous at arranging silly games. I mean, the fun of having young parents was that there was lots of chasing around, and mad things.”

The clip then went on to the Princess Royal, she said: “We used to fish in Loch Muick, I always said that I couldn’t catch anything and he said nonsense, come with me.”

“After I had been casting for about half an hour he said ‘I see what you mean.’ And I just knew it was never something I could do.”

The youngest son of the Queen and Philip, Prince Edward, reflects on his father by saying, “We used to go out with my father fishing, I’m not too sure, I can’t remember at what point I was given charge of the oars and then had to very quickly learn how to row a boat.”

The Queen allowed the access to her unseen, private cine-film collection for the one-hour BBC documentary.

A clip of Zara Tindall, the daughter of Princess Anne, shows her saying: “You never really prepare yourself for losing him because he was always there.”

The Duke of Sussex describes his late grandfather of being “unapologetically him.”
