Wendy Mitchell taught dance classes at West Heath school in Sussex, which the future Royal attended as a teenager. She claimed that ballet classes provided Diana with “somewhere she could really shine”, as well as letting her “lose herself” in something that she loved. Appearing in the CNN docuseries ‘Diana’, Ms Mitchell said: “Here, in the ballet class was somewhere she could shine.

“She adored dancing and anyone who has danced, if you do enjoy dancing, you’re just lost in yourself.”

Diana was certainly good on her feet and has danced with the stars on many separate occasions.

She was once photographed dancing with John Travolta at a White House reception in November 1985.

The Hollywood star revealed that he was asked to approach the People’s Princess for a dance by Nancy Reagan.

In a television special called ‘In Their Own Words: Diana, Princess of Wales’, he recounted: “

“About 10 O’clock at night, Reagan tapped on my shoulder and said: ‘The princess, her fantasy is to dance with you.

“‘Would you like to dance with her tonight?'”

“And I said: ‘Well of course.'”

“But I soon realised she had a good sense of humour, and that we could have some fun with our height difference.

“She’d already decided on the music: Billy Joel’s ‘Uptown Girl.'”
