The Prince of Wales appeared to throw a subtle dig at Rishi Sunak over climate change before the Prime Minister U-turned to announce he would attend the COP27 summit in Sharm El Sheikh. The Duke of Cambridge urged the world not to be distracted from the climate change plight during “turbulent times” after Mr Sunak said he would not attend the UN meeting.
Speaking at the Tusk Conservation Awards on Tuesday, Prince William added: “We are living through turbulent times and it is all too easy to lose sight of how critical it is that we look after our natural world.
“But we must remain focused on investing in nature and the environment, protecting it for future generations.
“We must not pass on the baton to our children and grandchildren, apologising for our lack of collective action.”
Mr Sunak, who will now attend COP27 in Egypt, previously claimed he was focusing on “depressing” challenges facing the UK economy.

King Charles III also broke his silence on his attendance at COP27.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “As has been made clear previously, in unanimous agreement with Government His Majesty will not be attending COP27.
“His focus is on the pre-COP reception at Buckingham Palace this Friday, where senior business leaders, experts and NGOs can discuss the important work of the summit and explore ways in which public-private partnership can help tackle climate change.
“His Majesty looks forward to hosting the PM and other global leaders at the event.”
