Prince William signalled 'monarchy more important than his brother' with brutal move

Prince William decided he “no longer wished to have Harry and Meghan” within his royal household in the months leading up to Megxit, according to author Robert Lacey. Relations between the two couples became strained in the latter half of 2018, with William deciding to push for their households and charitable endeavours to be split.

Royal author Robert Lacey said: “While the story later became that Harry and Meghan wished to split households, the original impetus was William who no longer wished to have Harry and Meghan in his household.

“What it basically said was that for William, the monarchy mattered more than his brother.”

In his new book Battle of Brothers, Mr Lacey details the argument that occurred between the pair after William received word of complaints against Meghan’s treatment of Palace staff.

There is currently an ongoing inquiry at Buckingham Palace into the allegations of bullying, with the results due to be published next year.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went on to establish their own foundation, Sussex Royal and moved into Frogmore Cottage.

The Duchess of Sussex denies any bullying or wrongdoing, saying that they are the product of a “smear campaign”.

Relations between Prince William and his brother have been strained for the last few years and worsened after Harry and Meghan decided to step away from the Royal Family.

The move was said to have ‘blindsided’ senior royals and led to a 3-day ‘Sandringham Summit’ of tense talks and negotiations.

Prince Harry characterised his relationship with William as “space” and said both he and Prince Charles were “trapped” in the institution.

Meghan Markle also spoke about the rumour that she had made Kate cry in an argument over flower girl dresses, revealing that the reverse had actually happened.

Since relocating to the US, the Sussexes have barely been seen in public with the Royal Family.

Prince Harry returned to the UK last Friday and reunited with Prince William to unveil a statue in honour of their mother. Yesterday’s reunion marked the first time the brothers had been seen together since the funeral of Prince Philip in March.
