Despite his recent passing, the Queen put on a brave face and has even seemed “happy and relaxed” as she stepped out of Windsor Castle to attend the Royal Windsor Horse Show. Four days in a row, the Queen has attended the event after her recent return from Scotland and meeting with German chancellor Angela Merkel.
Speaking to FEMAIL, Phil Dampier acknowledged some people might find it odd the Queen is in such high spirits after just a few short months, however, he offered a simple explanation.
“I’m sure she was devastated by his passing – after all they were married for 73 years,” said Mr Dampier, “but I’m sure that he told her to enjoy what was left of her own life.
“He would not want her to sit around mourning him like Queen Victoria did for Albert, and I bet he would want her to carry on living life to the full.
“Ironically they spent a lot more time together at the end because of lockdown. His death wasn’t unexpected and he had a long and fulfilled life.”
He added: “Like him the Queen is very practical and pragmatic, and she knows he would support her getting out and about.”
Last week, the Queen attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show which took place right on her doorstep.
The show, which concluded its five-day run on Sunday, involves multiple equestrian disciples including show jumping, dressage, driving, showing and endurance.
To add to the Queen’s delight, her granddaughter, Lady Louise Windsor, competed in the event and even made a touching tribute to Prince Philip by riding his carriage.

Mr Dampier acknowledged it was “fantastic” to see the Queen enjoying herself in recent weeks.
“She seems happy and relaxed and it’s a joy to see her smiling face,” he said.
“I think she is just delighted to be out of lockdown like the rest of us, and getting out and about doing the things she loves.”
