Prince Harry greets adorable police dog during official visit to New York – ‘So sweet!’

Hours away from California, which is now home to them, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex started a three-day trip in New York on Thursday. As part of their first appearance since Lili’s birth, the couple visited the One World Trade Centre with NYC mayor Bill de Blasio and governor of New York State Kathy Hochul.

As they left, something unusual surprised a journalist who was taking a photo of the pair.

He then went to Twitter to share his thoughts on what he had just immortalized.

“Think I just saw Prince Harry say hi to a dog,” tweeted Dave Maclean before receiving more than a thousand likes.

Although a gaggle of security prevented anyone approaching the duke, footage of the royal couple shows Harry respectfully putting his hand on his stomach and lightly bending his head in a greeting manner.

Responding to the tweet, hundreds of Royal fans gushed over the interaction.

VelmaRThompson1 responded: “Harry saying ‘Hi’ to a police service dog would NOT surprise me.

“That small gesture may be a ‘normalizing’ tool for him when he’s in these high profile situations.”

User AllSussextweets added: “He absolutely would. Don’t forget he thanked the horses when he announced Archie’s birth.”

Harry and Meghan are known for their love of animals.

The Duchess of Sussex has previously said the rescue dogs she lived with “mean the absolute world” to her and has referred to them as “my loves” and “my boys”.

The couple now has two dogs: black labrador Pula and beagle Guy.

Meghan’s passion for dogs even helped her bond with the Queen, whose interest in dogs is no secret.

In their engagement interview in 2017, Harry revealed the Queen’s corgis and dorgis took to Meghan “straight away”.

He said: “And the corgis took to you straight away.

“I’ve spent the last 33 years being barked at; this one walks in, absolutely nothing…”

Describing the moment, Meghan said: “Just laying on my feet during tea, it was very sweet.”

And Harry added: “…just wagging tails and I was just like argh.”

Harry has been caught on camera talking to animals before, however, the circumstances were very different.

In 2019, as the Duke was announcing the arrival of his first son Archie, he concluded his 90-second statement at Windsor Castle by thanking politely a pair of horses who passed by.
