Alastair Campbell hit out at Prime Minister Boris Johnson this morning, accusing him of not being “rational” and “clear” in his leadership. The former spin doctor to Tony Blair levelled heavy criticism at Mr Johnson and the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic during an interview with Sky News. But his comments sparked a ferocious backlash from angry viewers who branded Campbell’s comments “rubbish”. They hit out at him lecturing the government on “integrity” following his involvement in taking Britain to war in Iraq.

Mr Campbell said: “This whole pandemic has been scarred, the government handling has been scarred, by the character of the Prime Minister.

“By his inability to govern in a rational, clear, sensible way.

“To appreciate systems, to work with those systems.”

He added how, according to Dominic Cummings’ testimony, the PM “wakes up every morning, has a flick through the papers, thinks ‘what shall we do to stay in the story today’.

Mr Campbell said: “That is not government, that is not leadership”.

Trevor Phillips hit back at Mr Campbell’s comments, highlighting how the Tories are between ten and 18 points ahead in the polls against Labour.

Bur the former spin doctor replied: “I honestly don’t care about the polls – I care about the country and where the country is heading with this Prime Minister.”

While another said: ‘”They’re meant to tell the truth” re: gov. Like you & BLIAR NEVER did during your deceitful tenure.”

And third chimed: “Utter rubbish from you Alastair on sky news, you talk about honesty and integrity!!! Really were you talking about yourself and Blair.”
