On the pressures of fame she explained: ‘I don’t think anyone knows how to handle that. I worry about everything. I’m full of anxiety. I have a fear of failure, letting someone down, contradicting myself.

‘You see what it is for your mental health to be in the public eye. I meditate, I have a therapist, I walk every day. There are things I do to ground myself, because it’s quite hectic at the moment.’

Speaking about the entertainment industry as a whole she added: ‘What I’ve started to realise about this industry is that the highs can be really high, but the lows can be really low, so it’s finding that middle ground and centring oneself.

‘It’s really important for me and my sanity to work on projects that I love and develop characters that I think are really interesting – that’s the excitement for me.’

On the unexpected success of Bridgerton she added: ‘I thought it was just another project. I didn’t think anyone was going to care. We were all in lockdown, stuck at home and nothing changed.

‘In the first season, people were saying to me, ‘You know this could be huge,’ but you don’t ever believe that, and you will never understand what it feels like until it happens to you.

‘It’s quite out-of-body and weird. It was only when we started being able to leave the house again and there were photographers outside – which was really scary – that I realised if I went out in my pyjamas, there might be someone taking pictures.’

For her stunning cover shot, Phoebe wowed in the green dress which featured white zip detailing on the sleeves and a chic boxy design.

The beauty wore her dark tresses in loose waves over her shoulders and opted for a radiant natural makeup look.

For another look she slipped into a red dress with statement white straps and dramatic puffed skirt.

Elsewhere in the interview she also spoke about making her film debut playing the ceramicist Clarice Cliff in the upcoming biopic The Colour Room.

She said: ‘My dad loves her and has a few of her pieces. I didn’t know much about her, I just knew her designs.

‘Her story absolutely fascinated me – a woman coming from a working-class background, working up to running a whole pottery.

‘It was an incredible achievement, so it was exciting to me to be able to play a character like that, particularly after Daphne, because in almost every way, they are polar opposites.’

Phoebe also discussed her background, saying that she wants to represent the ‘Northern working-class background’.

She explained: ‘My mum grew up in Oldham and was going to work at a cigarette factory till she decided to go to drama school, so there’s part of me that wants to represent the Northern working-class background.’

The new interview comes after her show Bridgerton’s acclaimed first season was viewed by a staggering 82 million Netflix accounts in one month, new data revealed last Thursday.

The steamy period drama – the first run of which focused on the romance between Daphne Bridgerton, (Phoebe), and Simon, Duke of Hastings (Rege-Jean Page) – topped the streaming service’s series list, beating dramas including Lupin Part 1 and The Witcher Season One with 76million accounts each.

Bridgerton’s stellar success was revealed in data from the 2021 Code conference, presented by Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos, and was based on how many accounts viewed at least two minutes of the title during its first 28 days on Netflix.

Sex/Life season one, Stranger Things season three and Tiger King also made notable entries on the list with 64 million, 64 million and 67 million accounts.

It also showed that Extraction led the most viewed films list with 99million accounts viewing, followed by Bird Box with 89 million and Spenser Confidential with 85 million.

A further slide ranking Netflix’s top 10 films and series based on their total viewed hours during their first four weeks on the service also saw Bridgerton triumph in the latter category with 625million hours viewed.

Money Heist season four placed in second with 625million hours  followed by Stranger Things season three with 582million hours.

On the films list, Bird Box topped the charts with 282 million hours, with Extraction just behind with 231 million hours and The Irishman with 215 million.

Bridgerton swiftly became Netflix’s biggest show ever upon its launch in December 2020 – with fans going wild over the antics of the self-titled family and how their lives are turned upside-down by the revelations of the illusive and anonymous Lady Whistledown in London.

The November issue of Harper’s Bazaar is on sale from October 7.
