Ohio Senate Debate: Democrat accuses J D Vance of calling Trump ‘America’s Hitler’

A US Today poll revealed earlier on Monday that J D Vance is ahead of Mr Ryan in the race for Senate following President Joe Biden’s lack of popularity. According to the poll, Vance is leading by 45 to 47 percent, which flipped Ryan’s one point lead last month with 46 to 47 percent.

While Pennsylvania is the ideal prospect for Democrats wishing to flip a Republican Senate seat, Ohio is the second option.

J D Vance has been backed by former President Donald Trump and in the opening minutes of the debate was forced to tackle embarrassing comments made both by himself about the former president and by Trump about the senate hopeful.

Tim Ryan has already used the embarrassing comment made by the former President against his opponent, but continued to try to get under Vance’s skin.

Last week, Mr Ryan quoted Trump who said Vance was “in love with me” and is “kissing my ass, he wants my support so bad” as Ryan called him as “ass-kisser”.

He said: “I’m from Ohio. I don’t kiss anyone’s ass like him. Ohio needs an ass kicker not an ass-kisser.”

Donald Trump made the comment while attempting to rebut a story from the New York Times which outlined that Trump held a rally in Ohio without an invitation from Vance.

Mr Ryan’s attack continued: “After Trump took JD Vance’s dignity from him on stage in Youngstown, JD Vance got back on stage, shook his hand, started taking pictures, saying, ‘Hey aren’t we having a great time here tonight?’

“I don’t know anybody…that would allow somebody to take their dignity like that and then get back up on stage.”

During the debate, the Republican brought up Ryan’s voting record supporting all of Nancy Pelosi’s policies over the past two years as he said: “You vote with her 100 percent of the time, so you can’t run from the policies that she has supported.”

Mr Ryan hit back: “I ran against Nancy Pelosi, JD, for leadership. And you have the courage to take on your own leaders.

“You were calling Trump ‘America’s Hitler’ and then you kissed his ass.”
