According to the Delhi-based news network News 18, the total number of children in Haryana’s Palwal district killed by the unknown virus rose to 24 on Friday after three children reportedly died while receiving treatment in hospital. Health experts in the northern region of India are yet to identify the cause of the disease.

But officials from the Haryana Health Department have started to collect blood samples in an attempt to work out what disease has been spreading through the region.

“The samples have been collected to identify the causes behind the mysterious fever,” an expert from the department said.

Friday’s three victims were as young as seven, three-months and just nine-days-old.

Parents of the victims claim their children suffered from symptoms associated with the virus before they were admitted to hospital.

The parents of the seven-year-old and three-month-old victims also said their children passed away within hours of entering hospital.

According to News 18, one parent said: “My daughter complained of fever on Thursday evening.

“We admitted her to the Nalhad Medical College for treatment but she died in the evening.”

The other victim’s parents reportedly added their child was pronounced dead just hours after they first came down with a high fever.

The BBC has also revealed that one of the nation’s top courts has approved plans by Narendra Modi’s Government to compensate the hundreds of thousands of pandemic-related deaths with £498, which is the equivalent of 50,000 rupees.

However, experts suggest the total figure could be up to 10 times this amount after a study concluded the total number of excess deaths in India had surpassed four million in the summer.
