A FEMALE cop’s bodycam captured the moment a gangster shot her in the leg from point blank range.

Career criminal Richard Mendoza pulled a gun on the officer in North Hills, California, during a routine traffic stop.

He appeared to be following her instructions to the letter when she asked him to step out of the car.

Mendoza, 32, even appeared to deny having a gun when she asked: “You don’t have anything on you, right?”

But at the last moment, as she was distracted, he pulled out a concealed weapon and opened fire.

As the policewoman went down in agony, her partner sprung into action, shooting Mendoza in the head and torso.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead,CBS Los Angeles reported .

The dramatic showdown was captured from three angles: The patrol car’s dash-cam and both officers’ body cameras.

Cops are investigating the shooting while the female officer recovers from her injuries, the LA Times reported.

Mendoza was revealed to be a gang member who had several previous convictions on drug and gun charges.

LAPD Chief Michel Moore said: “Officers are fearful in these situations and the public here gets to see why.

“Once a person has you in that position it is very tough. You cannot stop that first one or two shots.”
