    Mercury Retrograde meaning:

Due to an optical illusion caused by Mercury’s shorter orbit, the planet appears to have shifted into reverse gear.

Our home planet completes a lap around the Sun every 365 days and a bit, which to us equals one year.

Mercury sits much closer to the Sun and consequently completes a lap around the star every 88 days.

A couple of times during the year, as the Earth catches up, the relative position of our planet appears to give Mercury backward motion.

This, of course, is not the case but the optical illusion makes it seem so.
