Meghan’s latest podcast episode was all about examining the labels “bimbo” and “dumb blonde”, and looking out how these are so often used against women to belittle and undermine them. Paris shared her experiences of being perceived as “dumb”, but so did Meghan – the Duchess revealed how she felt she was being praised for her beauty, and not her brains, on the US version of Deal or No Deal when she appeared on it decades ago.
Body language expert Judi James analysed Meghan’s way of speaking during the episode, as well as her reactions to Paris.
She said: “It’s an impressive and optimistic task for Meghan to be seeking sympathy for the famous, successful, beautiful and wealthy Paris Hilton, as well as her 2006 self during her ‘Briefcase’ days on TV during this podcast.
“But, her running theme on Archetypes does seem to be to share heartbreak and tears with spectacularly successful names.”
Judi noticed that there was a moment in the episode where Meghan is close to tears, so much so that her voice cracked.

It seemed the Duchess was saying that she would want her one-year-old daughter to care more – and be proud – of her intelligence, rather than her looks.
Speaking about Deal or No Deal, Meghan shared: “Before the tapings of the show, all the girls, we would line up and there were different stations for having your lashes, put on, or your extensions, put in, or the padding in your bra.
“We were even given spray-tan vouchers each week because there was a very cookie cutter idea of precisely what we should look like. It was solely about beauty and not necessarily about brains.
“And when I look back at that time I will never never forget this one detail because moments before we’d get on stage, there was a woman who ran the show and she would be there backstage and I can still hear her. She couldn’t properly pronounce my last name at the time, and I knew who she was talking to because she would go, ‘Markell suck it in, Markell suck it in’.”
Meghan continued: “I ended up quitting the show. Like I said, I was thankful for the job but not for how it made me feel, which was not smart.
“And by the way, I was surrounded by smart women on that stage with me, but that wasn’t the focus of why we were there and I would end up leaving with this pit in my stomach, knowing that I was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage.”
