Queen Elizabeth II will ensure that there will be “no officials getting involved” when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle return to the UK, as the Royal Family are aware that any interference would “really wind Harry and Meghan up”. A royal expert has claimed that any meeting between Her Majesty and the couple would be a “private” affair, and would not be a summit between various members of the family. These comments come after reports that the Sussexes are hoping to return to the UK to see the Queen.
Speaking to Palace Confidential, royal expert Rebecca English said: “Meeting the family is very different from a summit, which we saw at Sandringham not that long ago, which is a kind of suggestion that they’ll be thrashing out family issues.
“I’m told if they do come and visit, it’ll be in a private capacity and very much will remain in that vein.”
When asked how Buckingham Palace are preparing for such a meeting, Ms English responded: “I’ve spoken to people about that this week, they’ve stressed to me that if and when it happens, it will very much be a private, family get-together.
“Nonetheless, I think everyone recognises it’ll be a pretty awkward one given what’s happened over the last couple of years, but there’s certainly no officials getting involved and I think they know that’s something that would really wind Harry and Meghan up if they were to do so.”

Prince Harry has not seen his royal relatives since his brief return to the UK at the beginning of July.
The Duke returned to London to join Prince William in unveiling a new statue dedicated towards Princess Diana at Kensington Palace.
The brothers unveiled the statue on July 1, to honour what would have been their mother’s 60th birthday.
Prince Harry also returned for the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip, on April 17, and joined other members of the Royal Family by walking behind the hearse to St George’s Chapel.
The Royal Family have not seen the couple’s son, Archie Harrison, since November 2019, and are yet to meet their newborn daughter, Lilibet Diana.
Relations between the Sussexes and the Royal Family have been strained since the fallout regarding Megxit, and Prince Harry and Meghan openly spoke about the rift during their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Whilst the couple criticised the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge, both Meghan and Harry spoke warmly of the Queen.
Prince Harry described her as ‘my Colonel-in-Chief’ and told Oprah: “I’ve spoken more to my grandmother in the last year than I have done for many, many years. My grandmother and I have a really good relationship… And an understanding.”
In a separate interview with James Corden, he revealed that the Queen had sent her great-grandson Archie a waffle-maker for Christmas.
