Meghan Markle appeared to take aim at the media for consistent criticism of her actions during a discussion with celebrities at her latest outing with Prince Harry, the Lion King Premiere. Musician Pharrell Williams “gushed” as he complimented Meghan on the positive impact her marriage into the royal family had on his community. Upon hearing this the Duchess of Sussex replied that “they don’t make it easy” much to the confusion of fans and royal experts.

Royal commentator Juliet Rieden reflected on these comments and deduced that Meghan was referring to the press and social media in relation to strong criticism.

The royal expert added that criticism against Meghan was far from personal but rather because she was “fresh blood” in the royal family.

She added that Kate Middleton also experienced negative press both in the mainstream media and online before it subsided.

Ms Ridden told nine News Australia: “We don’t know do we and we have had no explanation from the palace.

“I think she is getting it from all sides, isn’t she?

“I think the ‘they’ was most likely to be the media, I think it is most likely to be all of this stuff that has happened.

“Every time she says something or does something someone is criticising her.”

The news host added that there has been an initial backlash and Americans are calling for the media to “give Meghan a break”.

“Just after Kate was married she was criticised relentlessly for months and months.

“I think it is the sort of royal tall poppy syndrome.

“The newest one in gets the most backlash.

“In Meghan’s case, goodness me it is completely unfair and I think it is time that we gave her a break.”
