MasterChef challenge leaves fans AND contestant Pete Campbell completely stumped

On Sunday night viewers watched as MasterChef Australia contestant Pete Campbell narrowly escaped elimination.

While he ended up getting past the judges with his ‘interesting’ tasting quail, his journey towards choosing the bird was entertaining in itself.

During the MasterChef challenge, Pete had to decide which meat was quail when faced with a variety of options.

‘There’s a few different birds there, I know which one is a quail,’ he confidently said to begin with. 

But it wasn’t long before the Pete was forced to admit, ‘I really don’t know my game.’ 

Although he pulled through and plated up what appeared to be a good-looking bird in the end, things weren’t as dandy for Pete.

The happy-go-lucky contestant was shocked when the judges told him his quail was well cooked, however it needed more seasoning. 

He was also hit hard when judges suggested that the dipping sauce he made was  overpoweringly fruity. 

After the show aired, Pete posted a picture of the completed meal, fittingly captioning it: ‘Me and this dish aren’t talking.’

Pete’s quail drama comes after it was revealed former MasterChef judges Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan will reunite for a good cause: raising money for India amid the country’s deadly wave of Covid-19.

The celebrity chefs announced the initiative via a joint Instagram video on Monday. 

Gary, 54, appealed directly to his Instagram followers, citing India’s ‘more than 400,000 [coronavirus] cases a day and thousands dying every day’.

The British-born chef urged his fans to ‘join @mattscravat @gcalombaris and me and many of our friends for a massive 12 hours of delicious cooking, food and fun…

‘Cooking4India is a a one of a kind live stream event via YouTube with one goal in mind….to raise as much money as we can..!’

Cooking4India will be live-streamed on YouTube from 3pm on Saturday, 19 June. 

The plea comes just days after Channel 10 revealed Celebrity MasterChef would be returning to screens after a 12-year hiatus.
