Marvel Studios earns first-ever Emmy win with miniseries WandaVision

    The first of three 2021 Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremonies took place on Saturday evening in Los Angeles. 

    And Marvel Studios was an early winner, earning its first-ever Emmy with its Disney+ series WandaVision.

    The miniseries, which stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany as Vision, took home the trophy for Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Program (Half-Hour).

    WandaVision, which premiered in January of 2021, is the first television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

    Created by Captain Marvel writer Jac Schaeffer, the show takes place following the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, and centers on the two super-powered beings living an idyllic suburbia life in a world straight out of a 1950s sitcom. 

    The series has been described as a ‘blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.’    

    Overall, the Disney+ series got 23 Emmy nominations, which was the highest total for any limited series.

    Some of the other categories Wanda Vision was recognized for at the Creative Arts Emmys include limited series/TV movie casting, fantasy/sci-fi costumes, period and/or character (non-prosthetic) makeup, period and/or character hairstyling, main title design, main title theme music, music supervision, original music and lyrics, limited series/TV movie/special music composition, limited series/TV movie single-camera picture editing, limited series/TV movie/special sound editing, limited series/TV movie/special sound mixing and series or movie special visual effects.      

    Along with Olsen and Bettany, WandaVision also stars Debra Jo Rupp (Sharon Davis), Fred Melamed (Todd Davis), Kathryn Hahn (Agatha Harkness), Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau), Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis), Randall Park (Jimmy Woo) and Evan Peters (Ralph Bohner).   

    Among the eight Primetime Emmy Awards that still need to be revealed include: Bettany, who got a nom for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie and Olsen, who got a nom for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie.

    The nine-episode series also features characters from Captain Marvel, Thor and Ant-Man, and ties into the upcoming 2022 movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.     

    Olsen has been portraying Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that also includes, Avengers: Age Of Ultron; Captain America: Civil War; Avengers: Infinity Game and Avengers: Endgame. 

    The 73rd Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony will run through tomorrow, Sunday, and conclude next weekend on Sunday, September 19 on CBS at 8 p.m. EST.
