‘I don’t think I’ll do that again’: Marcia Hines reveals her shock at discovering she was pregnant from her first sexual experience at the age of 16 on Anh’s Brush With Fame

Marcia Hines spoke about her shock at discovering she was pregnant with her daughter, Deni, when she was 16 on Tuesday’s episode of Anh’s Brush With Fame.

The 67-year-old Boston-born singer revealed she was in Australia after landing a role in the hit musical, Hair, when she started to feel strange.

She decided to see a doctor, who informed her she was ‘about six months pregnant’, which left her shell-shocked.

Marcia revealed she fell pregnant from her very first sexual experience, and joked that it had put her off sex for life.

‘I was terribly twisted about sex, you need to know. I’m thinking, “I don’t think I’ll do that again,”‘ she laughed.

She confessed that while she wasn’t afraid, there ‘might have had a bit of trepidation’ about having a baby so young.

‘There’s a part of you that you didn’t even know existed until you have a child, you know, that “I’ll kill anybody that comes near her,”‘ she reflected.

‘That whole maternal… That whole thing is beautiful.’

Marcia revealed she held off on telling her mum, Esmeralda, ‘for some time’, but when she did, her mother had already worked it out after seeing photos of her.

She said she didn’t tell Deni’s father until her daughter was around three years old, and he was stunned to discover he was a dad.

Although he decided not to be a part of her life while she was growing up, Marcia said Deni, now 50, is in contact with her father.

Elsewhere in the interview, Marcia spoke about losing her older brother, Dwight, to suicide, calling it ‘the biggest shock of my life so far’.

She said the devastating loss plunged her into depression and forced her to take stock of her life.

‘At that point in time, nothing much made sense until it started to make sense again. And the worst thing about depression, and I’ll be very honest, is it’s a spiral, you know, you go down…’ she recounted.

‘If you’re lucky, you can come out of it, and when you come out of it, I think maybe you come out of it a better person because you don’t take what you once took for granted.’
