Man's body found on roof of terraced house in leafy suburb

    A man’s body has been found on the roof of a terraced house in West Yorkshire. Emergency services were called to Harehills Avenue in Leeds yesterday afternoon.

    Police said the body is believed to be that of Gerard Colgan, 32, who was reported missing from the address on Friday.

    The body was found on the roof of the three-storey house at 2.40pm on Sunday.

    Formal identification has yet to be completed but his family has been informed.

    Officers said there were no suspicious circumstances and the Coroner’s Office has been notified.

    Harehills Avenue was sealed off on Sunday along with a number of other roads in the Chapeltown area of the city.

    Pictures show firefighters using a ladder to recover the body from the roof of the property.

    A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “The body of a man found on the roof of a house in Leeds yesterday is believed to a man reported missing from the address.

    “Gerard Colgan, aged 32, was reported missing from the address in Harehills Avenue, Chapeltown, on Friday.

    “At 2.40pm on Sunday, the body was located on the roof.

    “While formal identification is yet to be completed, it is believed to be Mr Colgan and his family has been informed.

    “There were no suspicious circumstances and the Coroner’s Office has been notified.”

    Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and Yorkshire Ambulance Service have been contacted for a statement.
