Last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick both struggled to find a back four that could remain solid throughout the season, with the likes of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly both being given chances in a desperate attempt to steady the sinking ship.
But the backline of Tyrell Malacia, Varane, Martinez and Dalot has looked one of the strongest in the league this season, and their ability to play out from the back also has aided the team in the attacking sense.
Dalot’s contract expires at the end of the season, though United do have the ability to activate a clause that will extend his stay by a further year. However, reports have emerged that the former AC Milan loanee is in line for a bumper contract extension that could see him stay way beyond his current contract expiry.
