It has been reported Sporting Lisbon are weighing up submitting an offer for the 37-year-old, but only if United are prepared to tear up his contract with the club, thought to be worth £500,000 a week.
Ronaldo began his career with the Lisbon-based club, who are currently playing in the Champions League and maintain a realistic chance of qualifying for the knockout phase. It would be heralded as a triumphant homecoming for the Portuguese outfit, while Ronaldo would have the chance to take a leading role and play in the competition once again.
However, Ten Hag will make the final decision on where Ronaldo will finish the season – and it could depend on whether Martial is able to prove his fitness.
