England boss Gareth Southgate says Harry Kane will not leave Tottenham while he is on international duty this summer. Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are all interested in signing the Three Lions captain. Kane has reportedly told Tottenham he wants to leave the club this summer.
Kane wanted a deal to be completed before the European Championships begin.
However, with England’s first game against Croatia on June 13, that looks unlikely.
Southgate was asked about the possibility of speculation over Kane’s future having an impact on the striker during the upcoming tournament.
However, the Three Lions manager insisted he does not expect any deal to go through for any of his players until the tournament is over.
“What’s going on at his club is a matter for him and Tottenham,” Southgate said at his press conference on Tuesday.
“He’s obviously made some statements in the last few days, so in many respects that’s out of the way now. I’m talking across the board here…
“I think it’s very unlikely that transfer deals will be done while we’re away.
“I think that’s different when we have our camps in September – very often we’re on that deadline moment and every now and then we’ve had to help facilitate a medical or a meeting between a player and a manager.
“I am very realistic about those things. We’re not going to stop phones ringing.
“We can’t control conversations that are going on in private, but I wouldn’t expect… I think most deals are done at the end of tournaments or they are done in the first week at the end of the season.
“I would expect anything with our players to be after the tournament.”
Kane is yet to win any silverware in his club career, which is thought to be the main reason behind his desire to leave.
Speaking to Gary Neville’s YouTube channel The Overlap earlier this month, he said he hoped a conversation over his future would be had with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
“I think so. I think it’s definitely a conversation to be had with the club,” Kane said.
“Yeah, like you say, I want to be playing in the biggest games… I hope that we can have that conversation.
“I’m sure that [Daniel Levy] will want to set out the plan of where he sees it but ultimately it’s going to be down to me and how I feel and what’s going to be the best for me and my career this moment in time.”
