The six-month-old electric car with a meagre 7,000 miles on the clock is now up for grabs for an eye-watering £82,500. However, the lucky purchaser will be pleased to find out there is no special premium added to its value for its Royal pedigree.

Tesla loaned the car to the environment-conscious Prince of Wales to try out as a more environmentally friendly form of transport.

Charles has been pictured being chauffeured in the midnight silver electric vehicle several times.

According to The Daily Mail, Charles loved the car so much, he asked Tesla to extend the loan period before handing it back.

The car is being sold by luxury car dealers Castle motors but experts expect it to be snapped up soon amid a global demand for the supercars.

Dale Flood, a director of Castle Motors said selling a car with royal ties was a rarity for his company.

He told The Daily Mail: “We have sold quite a few cars belonging to celebrities in the past, but not so many which have been used by the Royal family.

“I have been told that Prince Charles used it from new.

“It has an exceptionally long range for an electric vehicle. We are a family business that has been going for 48 years and we are always keen to sell interesting cars.

Phil Corker, the head of purchasing at webuysupercars.com, said that although the pedigree of the car certainly would help promote interest in the vehicle, he noted the positive move to electric driving.

He said: “The key element of this in my mind is to highlight the positive move to electric car usage, and maybe make a point that politicians making the policy that’s driving the uptake should be seen to be using them themselves.

“We’re guessing Prince Charles will get a full electric Range Rover as and when that’s available as that’s the manufacturer they have the strongest association with and of course it’s seen as a British brand and made in Britain.”
