She was a mother-of-four when she started her singing career, crafting the persona of a tough working woman.

The 18-time Grammy nominee wrote fearlessly about sex and love, cheating husbands, divorce and birth control, ascending her to stardom in the country music world.

Lynn was best known for the songs Coal Miner’s Daughter, You Ain’t Woman Enough, The Pill, Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind), all released during the 1960s and 70s.

She also made history several times during her career, including becoming the first woman to receive the Entertainer of the Year award at the Country Music Association in 1972.
