Islington Police tweeted: “Officers are at the scene of a shooting in Hornsey Rise Gardens, N19. One man has been taken to hospital and we await an update on his condition.
“A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.”
Police were called after reports of gunshots just before 4.25pm today.
A spokesman confirmed one had been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon and taken into custody.
The spokesperson added: “A crime scene remains in place and enquiries are ongoing.
“A Section 60 order has been authorised for a large part of the borough of Islington.”
