Nunez’s team-mates were full of praise for their centre-forward and matchwinner after the game on Wednesday. “He has so much potential,” Virgil van Dijk told Amazon Prime. “He’s still young, he’s learning, he’s learning the way we play, he’s learning English which is also helpful. He’s the modern-day striker that causes a lot of defenders problems. You could see today, his runs in behind, his buildup play is getting better.”

Tsimikas also explained that “goal-machine” Nunez needs confidence after his first home goal. “It was a very good moment for me, especially because it was a cross for Darwin because I wanted to assist him,” the Greek full-back said.

“He’s always there. He can score with the left, with the right, with the head – he’s a goal machine. He needs confidence, [which] is coming. I hope for him to score more and more goals to help the team to give us more wins because for us he is a very important player.”
