King Charles III and his close aides would rather the new season of The Crown “was not happening” as the Palace braces for a flurry of negativity. The King’s concern about the upcoming season on Netflix was discussed on Express.co.uk’s weekly Royal Round-up. Host Pandora Forsyth noted that several members of the Royal Family “will be watching it”.
The Express’s Royal Correspondent Richard Palmer remarked that Charles and his advisers feel helpless about the new season.
He claimed the Palace aides are bracing for backlash since Charles is a key figure in the fifth season.
Several close famous friends of the new King have come out in recent days against purported storylines in the show.
Broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby called The Crown “full of nonsense” while Dame Judi Dench accused it of “crude sensationalism”.

Ms Forstyth asked Mr Palmer on the Royal Round-Up: “Do you think the Royal Family will be worried about any backlash?
“King Charles will be just eight weeks into the role when this comes out, and he is one of the main protagonists in this season because the storyline follows the aftermath of Diana.
“Will he be worried?”
Mr Palmer responded: “He and his advisers will regard it as unhelpful because it brings back stories of the affair, of Charles and Diana briefing against each other, and so on.
“They would rather it wasn’t happening but what can they do?”
Netflix appeared to back down to criticism this week after the latest trailer for The Crown comes with a “fictional dramatisation” disclaimer.
The description of the latest season now begins: “Inspired by real events, this fictional dramatisation tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the political and personal events that shaped her reign.”
This follows damning criticism from Dame Judi who called for a disclaimer “for the sake of a family and a nation so recently bereaved, as a mark of respect to a sovereign who served her people so dutifully for 70 years, and to preserve its reputation in the eyes of its British subscribers”.
The actress is close to both King Charles and the Queen Consort.
