Keyshia Cole mourns her late mother Frankie Lons following fatal overdose on her 61st birthday

Keyshia Cole on Thursday paid memorial to her late mother Frankie Lons, following Lons’ fatal overdose while celebrating her 61st birthday in her native Oakland earlier this week.

The singer-songwriter, 39, posted a series of shots with her late mother as she gave fans a candid look into her heavy emotions days after the family tragedy.

‘This is so hard man,’ Cole said. ‘Can’t really even find the words … I honestly don’t even know how to feel. You can never prepare for something like this… Ever!!! … but you will be missed.’

The Oakland native, who featured her mother on multiple reality shows, took to social media on the topic ‘to show [her] love and appreciation for [her mother’s] life.

‘I would like to thank my fans + supporters, shooot your supporters and fans, for being here with us during these hard times, and the love that you all have for us…..the love for all your children was definitely felt,’ she said. 

Cole referred to a celebration of life she was planning for Lons.

‘When u said all you want is to have ALL OF YOUR CHILDREN IN ONE PLACE, AT ONE TIME meant the most to you … and I’m completely down to do that for you,’ she wrote. ‘Even through our differences …. WE LOVE YOU. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!! Frank da bank!’

Cole’s sister Elite Noel initially posted the sad news on social media, writing on Instagram that it was ‘the worst pain ever … to see [her] mama in a body bag on her birthday,’ adding, ‘My heart so f****** broke.’

Cole and her mother had a complicated relationship, as the artist was adopted by family friends as a child, eventually mending fences with Lons in later years.

The singer touched on her mother’s battle with substance abuse, praising her for reaching sobriety for 60 days in March of 2020.

In 2018, she wrote on Instagram: ‘Every time my mom relapse, it breaks my heart more than it’s already been broken. I’m hoping, if any of u are dealing with a family member who’s battling with drug addiction, that you, yourself are learning how to cope with the struggle of it all. And all the pain it brings to see a loved one constantly relapsing.’

In response to the post, Cole received supportive messages from peers including La La Anthony, Swizz Beatz and Meagan Good.
