As the leaves are turning brown, many are turning to their warmer wardrobes to combat plunging temperatures. Megan Watkins, Head Stylist at SilkFred, highlighted some of the wardrobe essentials Kate, Princess of Wales turns to in the fall months.

    Coat dresses

Coat dresses have long been a royal wardrobe staple, and now the weather is turning, we can expect the Princess of Wales to dust off many from her closet.

Megan revealed: “A coat dress is an easy way to stay stylish and warm.

“For the Queen’s funeral, Kate wore a black version of the style, complete with a cinched waist, double-breasted buttons and a subtle v-neckline.

Bolder berry and jewel tones are usually autumnal wardrobe favourites too, and Kate often embraces these colours with her coats, jumpers and dresses.

Megan explained: “Luckily, tonal dressing [like Kate has previously done] is really easy to emulate.

“However, always make sure your two items are not clashing as this can often make your look look disjointed.

“This season, go for a signature autumn shade like burgundy or forest green.”

    Classic shapes

Whether it’s a sleek suit, a classic blazer or a tailored dress, Kate sticks to classic shapes when it comes to her autumn wardrobe.

Megan recommended: “Perfect for layering, style your blazer with cigarette trousers and this season’s on-trend shoe – a classic ballet pump.

“Opt for a tailored fit and a neutral colour for that ‘royal-appointment’ look.”

Kate is also likely to pair any of her autumn outfits with a matching pump shoe in a neutral tone.

    Stylish knitwear

The Princess of Wales likes to keep things casual at some of her royal engagements, so it’s not uncommon to see her wearing a smart jumper while out and about.

Kate recently wore a striped navy and white jumper for a visit to Plymouth, but she also opts for block colours like bright red or cornflower blue.

Megan explained: “A striped jumper is timeless and should be a staple in every autumn/winter wardrobe.

“Kate normally opts for a crew-neck style which pairs nicely with dark jeans and white trainers.

“This is one of Kate’s more laid-back looks and is perfect for coffee with friends, casual lunches and crisp autumn dog walks.”
