Now, a body language expert has assessed the couple’s changing mannerisms while on public engagements. Former police officer, Darren Stanton said that his previous job gave him the skills he needed to be good at reading body language, down to the minute detail.

Mr Stanton analysed the body language of the royal couple from their recent engagement in Swansea compared to one of their first joint appointments in Anglesey.

According to the body language expert, Kate and William have “grown and developed in confidence” and are “no longer joined at the hip”.

During a recent visit to Northern Ireland, the Princess of Wales had a run in with a member of the crowd who shook Kate’s hand and said, “nice to meet you, but it would be better if it was when you were in your own country”.

Despite the awkward encounter, the Princess was more than equipped in how to handle the situation with grace as she smiled and moved on to other eager crowd members.

After being an official member of the Royal Family since her marriage to William in 2011, Kate has grown in confidence in her role and adapted her own method of navigating public engagements.

Darren spoke on behalf of Betfair Bingo and said: “In the decade that Kate has been attending official events with William she did not always exude the levels of confidence that she does now.

“She has very much grown and developed into her own person and a significant member of the Royal Family.

“We saw her holding William’s arm a lot more, which is a comfort gesture that people tend to do when they feel a little uneasy or unnerved. We also didn’t see her engage with others as much as she does now.”

Similarly, William has grown more confident in his role after previously using “similar gestures to that of his father King Charles and would often come across as anxious or nervous”.

According to Mr Stanton, during his first engagement with his wife, “he was seen playing with cufflinks on his shirt – something Charles is often seen doing”.

He continued: “Nowadays, we do not see nearly as many self-assurance gestures…This proves he has grown in confidence and is secure within his position as Prince of Wales and future King.”

The pair have also learnt what they find acceptable in terms of public displays of affection at appropriate moments during public engagements which royal fans find endearing.
