In a video shared online, President Biden addressed crowds in New York following the devastating flash flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida. An advisor next to the President directed his eyes towards a child standing on a nearby balcony.

“Look at that nice kid with the American flag, say hello,” the advisor said.

President Biden spoke: “How are you pal, how old are you?”

    The child responded: “Seven.”

President Biden quipped: “You are getting old!

“By the way, the neat thing about America, every time we end up with a problem going into a serious circumstance, we come out better than when we came in.”

“That’s because we are so diverse, that’s America. Be proud of it.”

    “And don’t jump.”

The comment was met with laughter from the crowd.

People responded to the video on Twitter: “He’s made this ‘joke’ in front of cameras at least 4 times in the past year, all to people that were on an elevated level.”

Someone else commented: “He’s used that line before in 2020.”

Others were more critical of Biden online.

One user responded: “Is making a comment about a kid jumping off a balcony now a joke? Wow.”

He added: “The likelihood there’s going to be the Taliban overrunning everything and owning the whole country is highly unlikely,” and that the withdrawal was occurring in a “secure and orderly way.”

However, after the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul in 10 days on August 15, it left thousands of Afghans and US nationals trying to flee the country.
