He found fame as one of the stars of the long-running ABC sitcom Modern Family.

And on Monday, Jesse Tyler Ferguson used his celebrity platform to encourage others to take care in the sun.

Sharing a photo of himself with a bandage on the back of his neck, he revealed on Instagram that he’d had ‘a bit of skin cancer’ removed.

The actor, 45, wrote: ‘Reminder to stay up to date on your dermatology checks… especially if you’re fair like me.

‘I always wind up getting something taken from me, every time I go. Today, they took a bit of skin cancer that they found.’

And to make the point about the importance of routine checkups, Ferguson added:  ‘Don’t worry, I got it early and I’m gonna be just fine.’

He also shared that from now on, it’s ‘SPF 1000 for me!’
