James, 13, and his 17-year-old sister, Lady Louise Windsor, are Queen Elizabeth II’s youngest grandchildren. As a result of the pandemic and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s split from the Firm, their parents Sophie and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, have taken on more royal duties. Their presence has grown, and recently Sophie was widely praised for appearing to break a royal taboo, and discussing the menopause. During a video call with charity organisers at Wellbeing Woman, Sophie suggested that women should be “celebrated for the fact that they don’t have periods anymore,” and suggested that the menopause should be a “liberation” but instead “feels like a shackle”.
In the online chat, Sophie added: “It’s described as something incredibly negative.
“Yes, it’s an admittance of the fact that yes, we’re getting a bit older, we’re not as young as we were before, we’re not being, you know, to use the word ‘productive’, we are past that stage, and it’s quite a moment to admit it.”
It was also recently revealed that the likes of Edward, and his children, have moved further down the line of succession, due to two new royal babies joining the Firm.
Both of Meghan’s and Princess Beatrice’s new babies are expected later this year, which means Lady Windsor is moved further away from becoming Queen consort.
The Queen handed the titles of Viscount and Viscountess to her son and Sophie Wessex at the time of their wedding in 1999.
And she ensured that a subtle nod was given to Sophie in the title she would give James.
Their son James was given the name ‘Severn’ by the Queen to honour his mother’s Welsh heritage.
Both James and Louise have the right to be given HRH titles but both Edward and Sophie decided against using them so that their names would resonate with the Earl of Wessex title.

When Prince Charles becomes King Edward and Sophie will be given the peerage of Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
Royal correspondent Robert Jobson also praised Edward and Sophie for stepping up their royal duties following reports that Prince Charles had plans to slim down the monarchy.
When speaking to viewers on Sunrise Royal this week, Mr Jobson said: “I think Edward and Sophie will continue in their roles.
“They’re doing a lot of the donkey work.
“A lot of work goes on behind-the-scenes that they do that doesn’t get reported.
“You can reduce the Royal Family to some extent.”
