'It's week one!' Strictly viewers slam Anton Du Beke for 'high' result in first week

Strictly Come Dancing is back and viewers couldn’t be more excited to see the glitz and glamour of the dancing competition. The BBC One series kicked off tonight with the celebrities making their dancefloor debuts as they tried to combat the nerves. Former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh was the first contestant to take to the stage along with her dance partner Graziano Di Prima.

The duo took to the dancefloor where they performed the Jive to Merry Clayton’s Yes.

While she did her best to stay upbeat with her kicks and flicks, not all of the judges were left impressed.

Craig Revel Horwood labelled her performance as “sluggish” and wanted to see more energy from the presenter.

However, Anton Du Beke thought their routine was a great start to the show and scored the pair very highly.

While Strictly has only just returned, fans are already putting their bets on for who they think is going to take home the Glitter Ball Trophy.

Actor Will Mellor has soared straight to the top, according to bookmakers Ladbrokes, who is now 13/8 favourite to win the show, after his odds were 6/1 earlier today.

He is closely followed by Helen Skelton with 4/1, Fleur East with 9/1, Tyler West with 7/1 and Kym Marsh with 8/1.

Of course, it’s just week one so there is still plenty of time for Will’s fellow contestants to win the public over.

Last night, the crowd was treated to a spectacular performance from last year’s winner, EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Smith and her partner Giovanni Pernice.

She was the first deaf contestant to take part in Strictly and so wowed everyone with her grace and unexpected musicality.

Rose and Giovanni just pipped former GBBO winner John Whaite and Johannes Radebe who came in second place.

The launch show also welcomed singer John Legend to the dancefloor for an emotional rendition of All She Wanna Do.

Strictly Come Dancing continues every Saturday on BBC One.
