Inter Milan have stepped up their pursuit of Lukaku after jetting into London for talks with Manchester United.
Inter’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, is still hoping to sign the Belgian this summer.
United have set an asking price of £75m for Lukaku, as they want to recoup the money they bought him for two years ago.
But Inter are trying to agree a £65m deal with United, according to The Sun.
Ausilio was prepared to wait until this weekend to jet into the UK for talks with United.
But, it’s believed that Inter have become spooked by rumours that Juventus have been quietly working with United over a deal for Lukaku.
And Sky Sports now claim that Inter have officials in the UK to begin talks over a deal.
Solskjaer has also reportedly begged the 26-year-old to spend one more season at Old Trafford.
However, Lukaku has still made it clear that he wants to leave the club this year.
Inter Milan had previously been playing down their pursuit of Lukaku, insisting that there’s absolutely no rush to agree a deal.
The club’s chief executive officer, Giuseppe Marotta, said: “The transfer market is a work in progress.
“We are working hard to get the best squad possible for the new season.
“We are ambitious and want the best team possible. We also must find ways to respect all financial perimeters too.
“We cannot rush things because that can lead to mistakes. We have clear ideas but we need to be patient.
“We have important goals and transfer targets in mind.”
Lukaku would like to play for Antonio Conte at Inter Milan. The Italian tried to sign him when he was manager at Chelsea, but the Belgian subsequently went to United.
United bought Lukaku from Everton in 2017 for £75m. His value more than doubled during the three years he spent at Everton.
